Press Release: GRAND OPENING! |
The Grand Opening of the recently acquired Bennie Hall Wildlife Area is scheduled for 10AM, Saturday, August 9, 2008. The Bennie Hall Wildlife Area is located approximately 1.5 miles west of Linden, Iowa, on 250th Street and then 1/4 miles south on 248th Trail in Section 23, South Cass Township. Interested participants can meet at the Guthrie Co. Historical Village in Panora at 9:40AM and then carpool to the Bennie Hall Wildlife Area. |
The area is named after the late Bennie Hall, an avid trapper and hunter from Guthrie County. Mr. Hall left his estate to the Prairie Woodland Conservation Foundation to be used for conservation purposes. The 220-acre area lies adjacent to existing public land and created a 517-acre wildlife habitat complex. The area’s primary use will be to serve as a wildlife habitat for game and non-game species. Hunting, fishing, birdwatching, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking will be the primary activities in the area.
After the official dedication, participants will take a hike to the bluff overlooking the Middle Raccoon River Valley. “The view from the bluff is the most spectacular view I have ever seen in Guthrie County and definitely worth the walk,” stated Joe Hanner, Director of Guthrie County Conservation. |
